Latent Drug Interaction of Theophylline with Concurrent Erythromycin Therapy

Abstract
|
|
|
|
A latent effect of erythromycin on theophylline clearance has been demonstrated. Controlled studies involving normal subjects or patients with pulmonary disease have shown that a week or more course of erythromycin decreases theophylline clearance by 15％ to 60％ in western population. This case report of 49 year old Korean female shows significant reduction of theophylline clearance as much as 35.4％ by concurrent administration of erythromycin.
